Fashion on Film

Ive recently had to write an essay for my Design History lecture at uni, we were pretty much given free reign and wrote about whatever we fancied! Easy enough? Not really. I chose to look back over the last century and pin point memorable iconic fashion moments in blockbusting films!

I would urge anyone wanting a career in Fashion or an industry that is very similar to do their research. Learning from the past will help your progression in the future and a better knowledge of the past is key. I found this essay hard as there is so many movies that have supported huge stars and massive fashion items. Here I focus on a few throughout history....

Cleopatra 1934 starring Claudette Clobert

The Seven Year Itch starring Marilyn Monroe 1955
(I think everyone has seen the image weather they know which film it is from or not)!
Voted the most iconic celebrity moment of all time by

Breakfast at Tiffany's starring Audrey Hepburn 1961
(Another world wide recognised image)

Saturday Night Fever 1977 starring John Travolta

Grease 1978 starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton John
(I think everyone knows this film) :)

Pretty Women 1990 starring Julia Roberts

Sex and The City 2008 starring Sarah Jessica Parker
